Top Ten Books To Read If You Like These TV shows, movies, plays etc.
A great one here. Mine are mainly SF/F/H related, though a few thriller and literary books crept in at the end.
If you like X-Men, then read: Myke Cole's Shadow Ops series. A combination of fantasy, military fiction and X-men type superheroes. Great stuff!
If you like The West Wing, then read: Star Trek: Articles of the Federation. A bit of a cheat here since the book is also based on a tv show and obviously if you aren't a Star Trek fan your mileage may vary but this is a great political sci-fi book in its own right.
If you like Star Trek, then read: David Weber's Honor Harrington series. A great military SF series with a kick-ass female character. Plus the first book in the series is free for Kindle!
If you like Dune, then read: David Louis Edelman's Jump 225 trilogy. Sold as Dune meets Wall Street, this is a very different animal to Frank Herbert's seminal novel, in terms of character and story, but it is definitely reminiscent in its use of world building. Plus it is a fantastically intricate sci-fi thriller that doesn't get nearly enough readers thrown its way!
If you like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then read: Christopher Golden's The Shadow Saga. Vampires, magicians, demons, snark... Golden actually wrote some Buffy tie-in fiction around the time he released the first of this series. Plus they have recently been rereleased with new covers.
If you like 24, then read: Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon series. A kick-ass assassin/spy, Gabriel Allon has all of the hard ass persona of Jack Bauer, with the added artistic soul of a painter. The series itself is a great mixture of art history, spy-fi and real-world politick.
If you like Disney's Alladin, then read: Throne of the Crescent Moon by Saladin Ahmed. Sorcery, adventure, swash-buckling in an Arabian Nights type world.
If you like Revenge, then read: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. The book that inspired the up-and-down in quality tv show, you should also read The Count of Monte Cristo because it is a fantastic book. Revenge, betrayal, love, murder, vampires, drugs, Paris, Venice, disguises, spies... What isn't to love?!
If you like Downton Abbey, then read: Fall of Giants by Ken Follett. Set in the same era, Fall of Giants has much more an epic scope than the ITV series, following a number of families spread across Germany, Britain, the US and Russia in the lead-up to WW1.
If you like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, then read: Life After Life by Kate Atkinson. Dealing with similar concepts of mortality and the impact we have on those around us, Life After Life is a glorious exploration of the power of choice.
